The Warren Centre is primarily an adult and family learning centre, in the heart of Shirley Warren on the Shirley Warren Learning Campus site. It has become an important part of the local community, running courses including everything from assertiveness to web design, mother and baby groups to tea dances.

The Warren Centre believes that learning is a lifelong process and that people learn best and achieve most when they are given confidence in their own abilities, and when their own ideas and experiences are valued.

In 1988 The Warren Centre was officially opened, before which time it was part of Shirley Warren school. At the time the centre offered two courses - an NVQ in Business Administration and Clait. There were two parent groups including a support group for families in crisis called "Voices". There was one cre'che session per week along with 3 other drop-in groups.

In 2002 the IT suite was built and after the centre organiser joined in 2003, more funding was generated and from that point many more courses started to run each week, most on a reduced cost of £10. More income was generated for the centre through office hires and room bookings.

Major refurbishments to the centre took place in 2007 and in 2008 a new centre emerged.

The Warren Centre

Running primarily on funding, the Warren Centre serves an area where the lower costs are appreciated by the local community.

At the Warren Centre there is something for everyone: Bumps and Babes (mother and baby group), Little Vines and Stay and Play (parent and toddler groups), after school cookery, adult education classes ranging from Beauty Treatments to Web Design, computing for the over 50's and weekly tea dances.

The cost of courses are kept to a minimum due to the funding the centre receives. Most courses are £10 for 6 weeks.

The centre also boasts an Ofsted-registered crèche for 0-5 year olds with brand new outside play area. Costs are kept to a minimum due to the funding i.e £1.25 per child per 2 hour session.

The Warren Centre aims to ensure that everyone involved has the opportunity to fulfil their maximum potential; invests in the strengths of individuals and encourages them to contribute beyond their personal interest. And the community as a whole benefits.
